About
Vanessa Maria is the Journalism and Media Education Senior Director and she leads Free Press’ Future of Journalism education initiatives. She creates resources for newsrooms and trains journalists about civic-journalism best practices, press freedom, community engagement and meeting community-information needs. She is a long time community media activist and the co-founder of the community radio station, WPPM 106.5 FM in Philadelphia.
Vanessa Maria is also a co-owner and reporter at the worker-owned Philadelphia Hall Monitor, an independent hyper-local news cooperative focusing on civic journalism.
