About

Mexican cinematographer Sheila Altamirano graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Cinematográficas (ENAC) at UNAM in 2017. Since then, she has worked on feature films, short films, and TV series, both documentary and fiction. Sheila completed the ASC Master Class in April-May 2024 and a green screen course by Rexford Metz in 2014. She was selected for the ASC Vision Mentorship Program 2024-2025 under the guidance of Xavier Grobet, ASC. Sheila was the cinematographer for the feature film La Raya by Yolanda Cruz, premiering at the Morelia Film Festival in 2024, as well as for the award-winning short films Volition and Diabla by Ashley George. Additionally, she worked on the feature documentaries Born Guilty, directed by Diogo Barroso, and Mexican Town by Silvana Lazaro, both currently in post-production. She also worked on Lazaro's feature Winter Song, which won the Best Frontera Feature at the San Diego Latino Film Festival. Sheila has served as a second unit DP on the Amazon miniseries Buenos Rivales (Good Rivals) and on the documentary Welcome to the Jungle by Jake Wasserman, which is currently in post-production. She was also a co-cinematographer on the upcoming Star+ series Yo soy Rosalía (I Am Rosalia). Her documentary work has been nominated for the Ariel and Jose Rovirosa Awards. The short films and feature films she has worked on as a DP have been screened and awarded at various festivals, including Cannes Indie Shorts, Huesca International Film Festival, FIC Morelia, FIC UNAM, Final Girls Berlin, San Diego Latino Film Festival, Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, Latino Film Festival in Toulouse, FilmQuest, Cinema Latinoamericano in São Paulo, Kuandu Arts Fest in Taiwan, Fresh Wave in Hong Kong, Festival de Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in Havana, and FIC Guadalajara, among others. Sheila is a member of the female collective Apertura DOP.
