Matt Oakes is an Alexandria, Virginia-based documentary filmmaker driven by the belief that stories can strengthen communities. After years working as an editor, he picked up his camera to tell stories of environmental justice, Vermont history, and the individuals at the center of both. His debut feature, Sonny, chronicles a 94-year-old maple tapper whose life offers a quiet portrait of community, purpose, and resilience.
