About

Lauren Waring Douglas is a native of Charleston, South Carolina who has been producing and working in production for more than ten years. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Media Management from Columbia College Chicago at the height of the Great Recession, which led her to realize that a significant focus of her life’s work would be in South Carolina, uplifting and celebrating the stories of her Gullah Geechee heritage. Since that time, it’s been a series of purposeful experiences that have led her to her current season. Freelance gigs and organizing and hosting community workshops for the SC Film Commission inspired her to co-found the SC Media Collective, a social support group for South Carolina’s Black filmmakers and industry professionals. Her current projects include "The History of Sol Legare Island," "E is For:" and "When Porgy Came Home," the untold story of Charleston’s famous opera, "Porgy and Bess." Lauren seeks to give voice to the oft-silenced Gullah Geechee culture of South Carolina.
