About
Denis is a passionate artist, and a storyteller with experience in audio-visual content development for international nonprofit and development impact causes in Eastern and Southern Africa. His work on development and humanitarian stories in Africa has been widely published. CNN, BBC, The New York Times, Aljazeera, Sky News, and The Guardian, among other media outlets, published his coverage of the impact of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique. He has also recently had his photography work published by National Geographic.
He started in brand and marketing communications, working in advertising before branching into film production and photography. His experience spans television, documentary, and film production in many roles ranging from fixing and field producing to impact producing and directing.
Denis' recent short film, 72 Hours, shot in Northern Mozambique tells the story of a logistical innovation being piloted in the face of a resurgence of the wild poliovirus in Africa. Denis is currently developing his first feature, Mae we Ifula (Mother of the Rain), which tells the story of a community in the Arabica coffee-growing region of Eastern Uganda, and how they are coping in the face of increased land pressure and a changing climate. This coming-of-age film follows two young men on their journey towards 'manhood'. It is a poetic portrait of the place and its people with their rich culture that has stood for hundreds of years and today faces an existential threat. The film is a co-production with STEPS and is part of their Generation Africa 2.0 Lab 2023.
