David Bruns is a multiple Murrow Award–winning digital news executive and video journalism leader with more than two decades of experience building high-impact storytelling teams and operations in some of the world’s most influential news organizations.
At The Washington Post, Bruns served as Executive Producer of Original Video and later as Head of Video Logistics and Planning, guiding the strategy, editorial vision, and operational execution for the newsroom’s multiplatform video journalism. He led teams responsible for major investigative and enterprise projects that blended video, text, photography, and interactive storytelling. His work helped expand the scope of video-led journalism at the Post, producing award-winning projects such as the investigative documentary on Paul Manafort’s activities in Ukraine and the innovative “Raising Barriers” multimedia series.
Bruns also directed live coverage for many of the newsroom’s most high-profile events, including presidential inaugurations, election nights, political conventions, and the Pulitzer Prize–winning coverage of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Under his leadership, the Post’s video team dramatically expanded audience reach, increasing embedded video traffic by more than 800 percent and earning numerous honors including multiple Murrow Awards, a duPont-Columbia Award, and recognition from POYi, NPPA, and WHNPA.
Earlier in his career, Bruns spent nearly a decade at the Associated Press as a Video News Supervisor, overseeing global video coverage and investigations for thousands of broadcast and digital clients. He helped lead production for major international stories and events and contributed to Pulitzer Prize–winning investigative reporting. He began his career in broadcast journalism at KCRA-TV in Sacramento and as a freelance investigative reporter in California.
Bruns holds a BA in English Literature from UC Davis and continues to explore emerging storytelling technologies and newsroom innovation.
